WTF.

So, I'm going through looking at car seat videos, and I started thinking... I know so many people who mis-use their car seats. If they were ever in a wreck, their children would probably die... And I am not even exaggerating.

About a month or so ago, one of my good friends brought her baby (5 months old) to my house. When they went to leave I poked myself in the car to give the baby a kiss. I almost died right then in there. You know how they say you shouldn't be able to move the car seat more than an inch in either direction when when moving it by the base?? Well, you could move this car seat AT LEAST 6 inches. It was so loose. So, I asked if I could fix it and she said yes. I installed it correctly.

Well Kayelynn's party came around and that same friend came. I was excited to see the baby again so I ran to get him out of his seat. I kid you not, I could have taken him out of the car seat without unstrapping him the straps were so loose. Seriously!?!? And if I mention it to her she gets pissed. I just don't understand.

I WISH someone would have said something to me. I didn't really learn these things until Kayelynn was a few months old. I wish someone would have commented on a FB picture or something and educated me.
For example... Her straps aren't too loose.... But they are loose none the less. And her buckle is too low.

Again... Not toooo too bad, but still not right.

  1. I understand completely. I have commented on friends pics and they get all mad. They think I'm crazy! I didn't know anything until Kaedyn was right at 3. I turned him back around in a heartbeat!!! If I could show you the pics. Drew and I looked at them and both want to shoot ourselves. What the hell were we thinking. We even had Kaedyn ff at....7 months!! Granted he was a BIG boy I still can't believe I did that. Praise God we didn't get into an accident.

When I tell people about it it isn't like I'm not speaking from experience. I'm to trying to be rude or sound like I knowit all but help possibly save an innocent child. Kaedyn is about to be 4 and is over the max in height for his old care seat. So we bought him a Britax frontier 85! 5 point harnesses till 85 lbs and boosters till 120lbs! He will iseitjo till then. I don't care if his friends aren't. My children will also not ride a bus. NO!!!

My other 2 are still rf and will be for awhile:)

  2. I didn't know much when Grace was a baby either. Like the jacket thing, I didn't find out about that until I was pregnant with Brentley.

I have a friend on my facebook... her daughter is 3 days younger than Grace, so 28 months, and she has problems gaining weight, so she only weighs around 23 lbs... well, this girl had her in a regular booster! Not even a high back booster! I just about died. I was going to say something, but someone else already had. Her response was that it was easier to just use the seatbelt to buckle her in instead of the 5-point harness!! I mean really? The other person explained why it wasn't safe, so she said she'd take it back.
Well, she did, but she bought a high back booster, so she could still use the seatbelt instead of 5-point harness. I was at least always careful enough to know the weight and age limits on their car seats. My heart breaks for that little girl because I know she will not make it in a serious crash...

  3. I know! I wish I would have known more when Sam was little too! I am so glad she wasn't injured when we wrecked. She was only 5 months old! Now I am super picky!
