I have been wanting to potty train Kayelynn for a while, but since normally I have to leave from 12:45 to 1:15 to take Seth to school and then again from 3:15 to 3:45 to to pick Seth up, I didn't want to start for fear that it just wouldn't work since I would have to keep putting her back in a diaper to leave.
Since my car broke down and I am stuck at home, I figured I would make the best out of this opportunity and attempt this whole potty training thing with her. She is showing "signs of readiness." She -sometimes- tells me that she pooped when she has. She can stay dry for two hours, she is interested in the potty, blah blah blah.
With Seth it was so easy. Literally it took less than a week and he wasn't even peeing to bed. Easiest kid ever. Paige on the other hand was impossible. I tried for months and finally gave up and let her mom handle it. She still wont poop in the potty and for some reason decides that even though she is "pee trained" she wants to pee in her pull up.
I hate pull ups, I don't believe in them. I think they feel too much like a diaper and they don't know the difference. The only reason I put them on Paige is because have thrown away probably 10 or more pairs of underwear. She doesn't tell you when she poops, she sits in it and by the time I smell it or whatever it's dried and the underwear are ruined.
I have been doing research and looking up tops and tricks. So far she doesn't really give a damn. I'm hoping when she pees on it once though she will realize and she'll get it. *Fingers crossed.* So far today she's peed in her underwear once and hasn't peed any on the potty. :( We have this watch that came with Paige's pull ups. It's a princess watch/timer and you can set it for 15/30 etc minutes and it will either play music and light up or vibrate. We have it set on every 15 minutes and when it goes off she sits on the potty and we read a book.
I'm probably just going to try today and tomorrow though, and if she isn't getting it at all I'll probably stop and then try again in a month. I want to do it when I know that she wants it also, so it's not a power struggle with me forcing her on the potty and her just not caring.

We are fixing to start potty training Grace. She has been showing signs for awhile now, but we didn't want to start until Brentley was born because I had heard how kids regress after a new baby, so we decided it was just better to wait. We are in a good routine now though, so we are going to start. She will be two in a little over a month.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a good idea, the timer.
ReplyDeleteSamantha was like Seth. She looked at me one day and said she had to pee and ever since then, she just went. She had an accident the first day and I think one the second day, but after that she got it. She was only 21 months old.
I agree with you on the pull ups though. We just bought the plastic underwear for her to wear so that if she did have an accident she would feel it but it wouldn't get all over the floor or the couch and if we were out in public it wouldn't be a big scene. But pull ups are just like diapers accept no tabs. Even though now they have it where you can easily rip the sides down to change them.
