Her temperature was up again as we were leaving Wal-Mart so I gave her medicine and a BeKool patch. Her temperature finally went down to normal. She went to bed at 9PM and she was fine. I stayed up until 1:30 AM to take her temperature. I wanted to wait until I knew all the medicine had wore off so I could make sure her fever wasn't coming back. When I kissed her forehead she was freezing. I took her temperature and it was 93.6 under the arm and 95.1 rectally. I put her in a long sleeve shirt, sweat pants, socks, and covered her in her big comforter.
Right then I called her doctor. It was 208AM. At 305 I still hadn't got a call back from the doctor so I called again. I was so mad by this point. I called again and he called me back within 5 minutes. He was not helpful at all. He was like "What made you take her temperature to begin with.." I had already explained all of the above to him. Anyway, he told me that since it had been over an hour since she had been bundled up and her temperature hadn't went up I needed to take her into the emergency room.
So, I took her. We got there at 430. They came in and took her temperature and it was 95.6. When the doctor finally came back at 530 to see Kayelynn, she had them cracking up. She was singing her ABC's, counting, and acting scared of the doctor.
In the end, the doctor told me that her temperature was back up to normal now... I didn't know 95.6 was normal. Especially since the paper they gave me on hypothermia said that a temperature under 95 was a medical emergency.... So... .6 above that just doesn't seem like it would be normal to me.
Her temperature is finally back to normal now. The doctor said that she didn't know why her temperature dropped, or why it even rose to begin with. I have to make a follow up appointment on Monday. So, all that for nothing pretty much. I'm going to keep an eye on it though.

Hm. Weird. Yah. I heard 98.6 is normal. 95 is a lot lower than that.
ReplyDelete98.6 is "average" some people's normal is below some above. 95.6 is low but still in a normal range but with babies doctors don't usually play around. He most likely didn't see it as a huge issue because she was obvisiously coherent. I'm of course no doctor but from experience with my little ones and school.
